NCMPA1 Announces Additional Energy Efficiency Programs

7/29/2009 7:11:59 PM

Two New Programs Added to Existing Energy Efficiency Options for Customers

NCMPA1 has implemented two new energy efficiency programs to encourage energy conservation and efficient energy use. The new programs are now available through NCMPA1 participants. The additional programs are part of Hometown Green, NC Public Power’s collective effort to encourage smart energy choices. The programs also help NCMPA1 and its Participants comply with North Carolina’s renewable energy and energy efficiency legislation.

Commercial Solar Thermal Projects

The commercial solar thermal program offers commercial electric customers a rebate for installation of a solar thermal energy system. Eligible customers will receive up to a $700 rebate for each certified solar thermal panel purchased and installed after January 1, 2009.

Solar thermal energy systems use the sun’s power to heat water and are typically used for a building’s main hot water consumption. Facilities such as cafeterias, restaurants, veterinary offices, community centers and health clubs are good candidates for a solar thermal energy system.

 ENERGY STAR ™ Home Rebate

The ENERGY STAR™ rebate promotes energy smart building practices and provides a $500 rebate for each single-family home constructed after January 1, 2009.

ENERGY STAR™ qualified homes are at least 15 percent more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC) and include energy-saving features such as effective insulation, efficient heating and cooling equipment, high performance window and efficient products and appliances. An independent Home Energy Rater must certify each ENERGY STAR™ home. For more information about ENERGY STAR™ qualified homes, visit www.energystar.gov.

All of these programs will be managed locally by NCMPA1 Participants. NCMPA1 Participants include: Albemarle, Bostic, Cherryville, Cornelius, Drexel, Gastonia, Granite Falls, High Point, Huntersville, Landis, Lexington, Lincolnton, Maiden, Monroe, Morganton, Newton, Pineville, Shelby and Statesville.
