Jesse Tilton Announces Tim Tunis As Chief Financial Officer
Jesse C. Tilton, III, ElectriCities CEO, announced today that Tim Tunis has been named Chief Financial Officer. Tunis has worked with ElectriCities since 2005 as Manager of Accounting and Financial Reporting and most recently as Assistant Chief Financial Officer. Tunis replaces longtime CFO Al Conyers, who will retire from the post in May after serving ElectriCities for nearly 30 years. Tunis’ appointment is effective May 23.

NCEMPA Credit Rating Affirmed by Bond Rating Agencies
Three credit rating agencies affirmed the credit rating of North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) after a comprehensive update provided by the Power Agency. Moody’s Investor Services (Baa1), FitchRatings (BBB+) and Standard and Poors (BBB) all reaffirmed their ratings for the Agency. Factors influential in the affirmation include NCEMPA’s stable financial position and its Participants well-diversified and growing customer base.

NCMPA1 Credit Rating Upgraded by Bond Rating Agencies
Two credit rating agencies upgraded the credit rating of North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1) after a comprehensive update provided by the Power Agency, while a third rating agency affirmed a recent upgrade. Moody’s Investor Services upgraded the rating from A3(stable) to A2(stable). FitchRatings upgraded the rating from A-(stable) to A(stable). Standard and Poors reaffirmed their rating of A- that was upgraded from BBB+ in December of 2007. Factors influential in the upgrades include NCMPA1’s strong financial position, its sound market position with its nuclear ownership and its improved supplemental power supply arrangements.

North Carolina Team Wins First Place in Public Power Lineworkers’ Rodeo
The team representing the North Carolina Association of Municipal Electric Systems (NCAMES) won first place in the American Public Power Association’s eighth annual Public Power Lineworkers’ Rodeo, held April 18-19 this weekend. The team, made up of four electric linemen from across the state, took home top honors in the annual competition, held this year in Indianapolis, Ind.

Five New Members Join the ElectriCities Board of Directors; Officers Selected
Five individuals were elected to the ElectriCities Board of Directors in November and were sworn into office today. The 14-member Board of Directors advises and directs the activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number One (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA), and ElectriCities, a municipal electric system trade association. The ElectriCities Board also serves a coordination function.

North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1) Issues Request for Proposals
NCMPA1 has issued two separate requests for proposals (RFPs) for additional resources to serve a portion of its member cities’ future load and energy requirements. NCMPA1 is the full requirements supplier to 19 municipal utility members that are located within the Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke) service area.

Rocky Mount Mayor Fred Turnage Honored with Public Power Lifetime
Achievement Award
Frederick E. Turnage, longtime Mayor of Rocky Mount,
recently received the Public Power Lifetime Achievement Award from
ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc. The award was presented to
Mayor Turnage on August 10 during ElectriCities’ Annual Meeting
in Asheville.

Four Municipal Employees Honored as NC Public Power Hometown Heroes
Four individuals were recently recognized as Hometown Heroes by
ElectriCities of North Carolina. The awards were presented during
the ElectriCities Annual Meeting banquet, held on August 10. Hometown
Hero awards are presented annually to municipal employees who have
made an outstanding effort to save a life in their community.
