Five New Members Join the ElectriCities Board of Directors; Officers Selected

Raleigh, NC, January 25, 2008 –Five individuals were elected to the ElectriCities Board of Directors in November and were sworn into office today. The 14-member Board of Directors advises and directs the activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number One (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA), and ElectriCities, a municipal electric system trade association. The ElectriCities Board also serves a coordination function.

The following people were elected to the Board of Directors:

NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners elected Mayor Jennie Stultz of Gastonia. Mayor Stultz is a native Gastonian who has served as Mayor since 1999.  

NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners elected Linda Story of Granite Falls. Story has served in local government for more than 35 years and as Town Manager of Granite Falls since 1983.

NCEMPA Board of Commissioners elected Ronald Elks of Greenville Utilities Commission. Elks has served as General Manager/CEO of Greenville Utilities Commission since 2005 and has been employed with the organization since 1980, serving in various capacities.

NCEMPA Board of Commissioners elected John Craft of La Grange. Craft is the Town Manager of La Grange and has served in local government since 1991.

Non-Power Agency Commissioners elected Wilson A. Lacy of Fayetteville Public Works Commission. Lacy has served on the commission since July 2001, currently as Vice Chairman. He served as Chairman from 2003 until 2005.

Stultz, Story, Elks, Craft and Lacy were elected after an extensive nomination process. All will serve a three-year term and were sworn into office at the Board’s meeting today.

The ElectriCities Board of Directors consists of six members representing NCMPA1, six members representing NCEMPA and two members representing non-power agency cities. Other board members include: Stribling (Strib) Boynton, High Point; Jerry E. Cox, Huntersville; Samuel W. Noble, Jr., Tarboro; C. Bruce Rose, Wilson;  William A. Seamone, Concord; Robert J. Smith, Monroe; Richard L. Thomas, Lexington; Mayor Frederick E. Turnage, Rocky Mount.; and Mark S. Williams, Wake Forest.

At today’s meeting, the Board also elected the following officers for 2008:

Samuel W. Noble, Jr., Town Manager of Tarboro, was elected Chairman of the Board.

City Manager Stribling (Strib) Boynton of High Point was elected Vice Chairman; and Mayor C. Bruce Rose of Wilson was elected Secretary.
