The Safety and Training Department offers many quality opportunities for Public Power employees to obtain career development and proficiency training. In addition to the training events listed below, we offer several comprehensive Career Development Programs for powerline workers, meter technicians, substation technicians, and soon will offer one for underground technicians. Please note that some brochures may not have current dates and locations.  Check the training calendar for a quick overview of scheduled classes

Arc Flash Safety

Since Arc Flash Hazard assessment and fire resistant clothing selection and mitigation methodologies are an art form, not a precise science, and because there are so many variables to choose from, this session will utilize real world device and protective coordination settings based on input from the seminar. The session will also make changes so that all participants fully understand all of the components that make up the study, and how to mitigate the arc flash hazard through work rules, protective coordination settings, and the overall selection of fire resistant clothing. This session will contain examples from other municipalities who have completed an arc flash assessment.

Climbing School – Basic

This one-week class is designed for employees with little or no climbing experience. Subjects will include pole climbing and equipment, care and use of rubber gloves, rigging handline/bock and tackle, hot line tools, introduction to a single phase transformer and knot tying and splicing.

 

Lineman School – Intermediate

This one-week course is for linemen with a minimum of three years’ experience. Line Clearing/Tree Trimming Workshop

Safety Seminar/OSHA Workshop
